There isn’t a hotel at the terminal. Which areas are actually nearby, which ones have a bus service all year round, and what to look out for before booking.
Accommodation near Ibiza Airport
Firstly, because that’s the question that brings many people here: There are no hotels inside the Ibiza Airport terminal, nor right next to it. The airport is in the middle of the countryside, in the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, next to the ses Salines nature reserve, and its immediate surroundings consist of nothing but the runway, car parks and salt flats.
That means that ‘staying near the airport’ in Ibiza actually means staying in one of the areas with good transport links to it. And there are significant differences here, because not all of them have a bus service all year round.
The areas, by proximity and by connection
- Platja d’en Bossa and Ses Figueretes — the nearest: less than four kilometres as the crow flies. That’s where the island’s large hotels are located. The line AERO5 links it with the terminal in 27 minutes, but only from 15 May to 15 October and from Monday to Saturday; apart from that, you’ll have to take the Eivissa or a taxi. How to get there.
- Eivissa (the capital) — 6.7 km away, with the best transport links on the island: the AERO2 runs all year round and every half hour. If you are landing in the early hours or in winter, it is the safe bet. How to get there.
- Sant Jordi de ses Salines — the nearest village, 3.4 km away. There aren’t many hotels, but plenty of holiday accommodation; however, the AERO2 runs here all year round. How to get there.
- Sant Antoni de Portmany — 13.3 km away and home to the highest concentration of hotel rooms in Ibiza. The AERO1 takes about 50 minutes and in winter drops to five services a day, with the last departure from the airport at 20:00. How to get there.
- Santa Eulària des Riu — 18.9 km away, quieter and more family-friendly. The AERO4 takes about 37 minutes, hourly in season. How to get there.
Noise and the time of the return flight
Two things to bear in mind before booking, and that hotel registration forms don’t usually say:
- The noise. The airport runway is oriented 06/24 and the approach path passes over the ses Salines area and the southern end of Platja d’en Bossa. In July and August, when the airport is at its busiest, this is quite noticeable.
- The time of your return flight. If you’re leaving in the early hours and your hotel is in an area where the AERO service isn’t running at that time or during that period, the transfer will cost you more than the last night’s stay. Take a look at the timetable for the route before finalising the booking.

Opening hours for the public are set by Aena and vary depending on the season, so it’s not a matter of what’s usual but rather whether the building is open that evening. Check before counting on it.
It depends on your flight time and the season. If you have a morning flight in summer, there’s a bus that’ll get you there on time from almost anywhere. If you have an early morning flight in winter, staying at Eivissa is usually a better option than paying for a taxi from the other end of the island.
